To succeed in a home business you need a "Why." Simply put, your why is the reason you choose to work for yourself and stay motivated without a boss standing over you. Part of becoming successful in the home business arena is defining your why. It took me a little while to determine mine. I knew I needed more free time - but why? I also wanted more money - but why?
I can define my "why" in one word, grandchildren. Until last Friday, June 27, 2008, at 4:48 PM EDT, my "why" was a grandchild. That "why", Allen, who is 3 1/2 years old, was enough to keep me motivated for the past year. Now that Alexa has joined the family, my why has increased exponentially. And come late December, our other daughter is due to bring another grandchild to this why. I am totally loving it.
You see, some of the grandmothers I worked with have grandchildren who live nearby. That still wouldn't be good enough for me. I need lots of freedom to go to the zoo, the beach, swimming, reading books, riding bikes, playing ball, and taking part in make believe play. (Last night I waterskiied with a ribbon and belt tied to a bedpost. You would have loved it.) Also my grandchildren live almost 500 miles away! No way I can do that in a weekend.
So you see, at an age too young for convential retirement, I was compelled to find a way to have flexibility with my shedule and money to spend, save and set up some trust funds. It does take money to travel and play in style. And it takes money to produce some decent assets. Thank goodness my plan is working! I just got home tonight from a week with the grandchildren and I'm going back soon for another week. There is no way this would have happened with my j-o-b that gave me 2 weeks of vacation a year!
How about you? Do you have a compelling "why" to cause you to look at working for yourself? Remember this is an amazingly simple home business. And it won't take long for you to evaluate it for yourself. Then you can decide if your "why" is a compelling reason to say goodbye to your boss and hello to freedom.
To your success,
Sandra Hayes
